Titanic the Musical

Titanic the Musical at New Victoria Theatre

Why see Titanic the Musical?

10th Anniversary tour

The most infamous maritime disaster, the tale of the ill-fated Titanic lives on in infamy as each new generation finds themselves fascinated by the enigmatic ship and its short-lived maiden voyage. This 1997 musical (not to be confused with a certain film of the same name) looks at the lives of nine real passengers, examining their thoughts, feelings, and final hours across the class system, painting an incredible portrait of the post-Victorian, pre-World War society, the likes of which would never be the same again.

Created by celebrated Hollywood screenwriter Peter Stone and Maury Yeston this Tony-winning musical draws inspiration from the music of the period, soundtracking the ship's teeming social strata with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan-esque vaudeville numbers to sweeping orchestral ballads that would make Elgar swoon. A truly moving production (we cried at the London 2016 production), don't miss this brand new tour, launching in spring 2023.

The story of the musical

Titanic The Musical originally opened on Broadway in 1997 (coincidentally the same year as the James Cameron movie was released) at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, where it ran for over 800 performances and scooped five Tony Awards. This pared-down revival was first staged in London in 2013, with critics noting it was a much more emotionally engaging piece this time around, having jettisoned some of the original's bombast.

Masterful and compelling!

Moody, poignant, dramatic and heartfelt. The sound production was particularly good as was the quality of the singing,- we could not have asked for more. The performance got a well deserved standing ovation. Don't make the mistake of thinking this production is like the film of the same name. There is no connection whatsoever - in the interval I overhead several people expressing disappointment that it wasn't what they expected and a couple of people left half way through. It was a shame as the best was saved til last . Bravo! ... Read more

Wow... What a superb night of theatre

This is a wonderful very moving musical. This 2023 UK tour company is just about as good as it gets. Maury Yeston has written a stirring almost anthemic score. The audience in Cheltenham spa gave it a spontaneous standing ovation. I can't wait to see it again. ... Read more
